Prosthodontics is a dental specialty that focuses on dental prostheses and issues pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance of the oral function, as well as the comfort, appearance, and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/or oral and maxillofacial tissues.
A prosthodontist is highly trained in cosmetics, dental implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, temporomandibular disorders (TMJ/TMD), and more. Prosthodontists are the experts to see when anything needs to be replaced in your mouth, ranging from a single tooth to multiple teeth, or all teeth. While most dentists can do some of these procedures, prosthodontists are the specialists dedicated to this type of care.
