Bridges are dental prosthetic devices that are used to replace missing teeth that have been lost, commonly to periodontal disease or trauma.
Bridges are structures that are attached to the teeth on both sides of the gap, and typically contain in the middle a crown or another structure that replaces the missing tooth.
Bridges are used in cases where the teeth on the sides of the gap need some work, when the person can’t wait or doesn’t want to wait for options that take much longer (and may be more expensive), for example, implants, or in cases where surgery is not an option.
Another advantage of bridges is that they are cheaper than individual dental implants.
While most bridges are designed to be attached to both sides of the gap, in a few cases, they are attached to only one side of the gap. This is usually because there is no other tooth on the other side of the gap, for example, at the back of the mouth.
